CULTURAL TIPS FOR LATE CHRYSANTHEMUM

May is the time to study the month's sequence of stoppings.

Fairweather and sports should be stopped than the middle of the month

as the blooms become daisy eyed when fully opened.

most of the other incurves have a June stop, the dates chosen for each cultivar

are usually influenced by the desired dates of flowering,

Lates laterals usually develop to the full before buds appear,

lates are not so susceptible to the bud-inducing by the effects of temperature

they will develop there full quota of leaves before buds appear,

The first of the lates should be put into final pots, I keep my pots within a cold frame

to stop any excess water getting into the pots if it forecasts a heavy downfall

I then can close the frame down if needed,

A daily inspection should include water assessment, leaf miners, slugs, snails, etc.

I would indulge in a weekly spray, but all sprays can be very dangerous do take

precautions with full regard to manufacturers instructions and warning

Late Sprays

Cuttings should be rooted by now pot up into three inch pots and later into five inch pots.
